In response to my previous post about how most of if not all the banks I have dealt with are scams, I have compiled a list of the credit unions in Washington state and what their requirements for membership are. (Credit Unions are a special kind of banks in that they are strictly not for profit businesses. They tend to (if not always) treat their members better and have better terms and less (or zero) fees and other crap associated with ‘regular’ banks.)

Washington State Employees Credit Union
Now open to all residents of Washington State
Boeing Employee Credit Union
You’re eligible to join BECU if any of the following apply to you: Attend school in Washington state, BECU employee, Boeing employee, Boeing subsidiary employee, Former Boeing employee, Live in Washington state, Museum of Flight employee, Work in Washington state, Worship in Washington state, Family member of the above
Kitsap Credit Union
Serves those who live, work, worship, or attend school in Washington State, and their immediate family members.
State Highway Credit Union
Open to current and retired employees of: Washington State Department of Transportation, Washington State Patrol, Washington State Department of Licensing, Department of Labor & Industries, City of Union Gap Employees, Union Gap School District Employees, Yakima Health District. Also open to current members of Central Washington Agricultural Museum and anyone related to a current member of State Highway Credit Union and/or related to a current employee or retired of one of our existing Occupations or Associational Groups; fraternal organizations, partnerships or corporations having a usual place of business in this state and comprised principally of members.
Inspirus Credit Union
If you live, work, worship, regularly conduct business, or attend school in Washington State, you qualify to join.
Sno Falls Credit Union
You are eligible if: a) you live, work, or worship in the state of Washington; b) your immediate relative is a member of Sno Falls Credit Union.
Spokane Firefighters Credit Union
Open to Professional full-time paid firefighters, Retired professional full-time paid firefighters, Active part-time and volunteer firefighters, Other Fire department uniformed and non-uniformed employees, Spokane Firefighters Credit Union employees
TwinStar Credit Union
Anyone living or working in Washington state, or in Multnomah, Clackamas, Marion or Washington counties in Oregon, can join.
Community 1st Credit Union
Savings account required to become a member and you can open your account with a minimum opening deposit of just $5.
evergreenDIRECT Credit Union
Anyone who lives, works, or worships in Washington State, or is part of any school district in Washington State, is eligible to join. Relatives of current members are also eligible to join, regardless of where they live. And once a member, always a member even if you move away or change jobs.
America’s Credit Union
You must be 18 years old and have a valid Social Security Number to apply for Online membership.
Alaska USA Federal Credit Union
If you are not yet a member of Alaska USA, opening a checking account is easy! Visit any branch or call the Member Service Center.
Salal Credit Union
Open to everyone.
Harborstone Credit Union
Open to every Washington State resident.
Mountain Crest Credit Union
To open your account, you simply complete a membership card and make a small opening deposit (minimum of $5).
Sound Credit Union
To qualify for membership you must live or work in Washington State, have a direct relative who is currently a member of Sound or is eligible for membership, or work for one of Sound’s Select Employer Groups (SEGs).
iQ Credit Union
You must live, work, worship, or attend school in the state of Washington, or have a relative that is a current member, or be a member of the Friends of Pacific Foundation for Blind Children.
Gesa Credit Union
If you live, work, worship or attend school in the State of Washington, or are a close relative of someone who qualifies as a member, you are eligible to join.
Red Canoe Credit Union
Anyone who lives, works or worships in the State of Washington or in Linn, Benton, Lane, Marion and Polk counties in Oregon. In addition, family members of the before mentioned are also welcome to join.
Our Community Credit Union
If you live, work, or attend school in the State of Washington, or are a close relative of a current member in good standing, you are eligible to join.
